It is applied to your teeth quickly and painlessly in a short appointment in the dental office. There is no need for anaesthetic, needles or drills — the coating is “painted” on with a fine brush in two separate layers.
Prevora is painlessly applied with a fine brush or cotton pellet to the tooth surface.
The first clear layer contains the antimicrobial compound, chlorhexidine, in an extended-release formula so its effectiveness will last longer. The second clear layer protects the chlorhexidine from being brushed or rinsed away in the first hours after treatment. Because this treatment works against the bacteria causing tooth decay, it is necessary to have 4 treatments, one per week, at the outset, to reduce your existing infection levels. This is similar to starting an antibiotic whereby you take an initial stronger dose to get on top of the infection. After the first month, the treatment regimen is a single application every 6 months at your normal dental check-up.
